MONTHLY DEMONSTRATION MEETING

From September through May, we conduct a demonstration meeting on the second Saturday of the month.  These meetings are held at Valley West Mall in West Des Moines, Iowa. Valley West Mall is located at 1551 Valley West Drive (just north of Interstate 235 & Valley West Drive). Our space is #201 on the upper level in the southwest corner of the mall. The mall door that is closest to our space is on the upper level at the southeast corner of the mall (south of JCPenney).

Unless otherwise published, meetings start at 1:00 pm and generally last until 3:00 or 3:30 pm.  They include a short business discussion, a woodturning demonstration with lots of questions and answers, and Show and Tell of projects completed by members.  See the meeting announcement (newsletter) in the Meetings & Events tab for details.

Prior to the start of the meeting, members will typically enjoy coffee and cookies, check out a woodturning book or one of our many woodturning instructional DVD’s from our Chapter library, or network with other arriving members. Guests are always welcome to stop by and see what we are all about.

MONTHLY NETWORKING MEETING

There is also a monthly Networking Meeting. This meeting is an informal gathering where members can purchase harvested wood, pick-up embroidered garments, get woodturning questions answered, drink coffee and more.  Come and go anytime. Click HERE for dates and times.

IOWA STATE FAIR BOOTH

Every August the Des Moines Woodturners sell turnings at our booth located on the second floor of the Cultural Arts Building at the Iowa State Fair. This event is the biggest fundraiser for the club and the countless hours our members spend turning products to sell is truly appreciated. Club members also volunteer to be in the booth to explain, demonstrate and promote woodturning to the fair attendees.
