Member Mentor Program

The Des Moines Woodturners Inc. (DMWT) invites members to use the Mentor Program. Below is a list of volunteers, members in good standing, who are willing to share their experience and answer specific questions to help you with a particular problem.    Each mentor’s strengths are noted along with their name and city location. Select who might be best to contact, based on your questions and how far they are from you.  As volunteers*, it will be up to the mentor to decide if they can help, whose shop will be used and what mentoring will look like based on the need.

Directly contact your chosen mentor using the preferred method of communication next to their name below and work out individually how best to proceed.

Keep in mind this is not a class and will not replace DMWT sponsored woodturning classes.  Neither is it a method for someone to complete a specific job.  It is an educational tool to help you with questions and boondoggles that come up in your woodturning adventure.  Please see below for other recommended woodturning resources that you may want to explore.

For all mentors and students, safety is foremost in both woodturning practices and shop environments.  This includes safe tool use, sharpening techniques, and personal safety.   Click HERE to see “Woodturning safety is YOUR responsibility”.

*Mentors are volunteers and are not evaluated on skill or abilities by the DMWT
